Truly positive training does not rely on equipment such as collars and leashes to train dogs. The main reason is that we don't use pain or painful equipment to modify behavior. Also, once you have taken the collar off the dog he is back to his old ways so he has learned nothing and hence was never trained to begin with. Instead positive training relies on relationship and reinforcement to get your dog to listen to you and this in turn will last a lifetime. Until a dog is trained I do use some gentle equipment that gets the pressure off the neck of the dog and does not add to anxiety or create aggression. Most important is to get pressure off the dogs neck!
