ABOUT GAIL TENNEY

I have owned and trained my own dogs for 35 years.  I became a professional dog trainer in 2001 after learning about positive training.  Since then, I have been teaching dog training classes from beginners to advanced, doing  private home lessons,  consultations from puppies to aggressive dogs,  lecturing on dog training methods, nutrition and alternative health choices for dogs.

I am what is called a "crossover" trainer. The outdated traditional training methods from 1910 of using choke collars, pack leader, alpha dog thinking made my 9 month old Lab Jenna's behaviors worse.  In 2001 I learned positive training methods and I will never go back using force on dogs again.  In one day I had a different dog and I became a less stressed, more evolved and sophisticated trainer.  I soon realized if one has to use physical force to control or train a dog, one has no power at all.  The true power comes from inspiring and reinforcing a dog to follow direction not by bullying methods and creating fear.  My dogs respect me and look to me for direction and guidance.  I also respect them and treat them humanely.

Philosophy and training method
Philosophy and training method
Relationship-based training using positive reinforcement methods as opposed to traditional punishment methods.  No force-based training. No choke collars, nylon slip collars, prong collars or shock collars ever used to modify behavior even in aggression cases.  Positive training methods reduce stress in both dogs and people by “training smarter not harder”  Science has proven positive reinforcement to be more effective than old style traditional methods of using choke collars and force. My goal is to educate dog owners so they have a trained, well mannered, calm, happy, healthy dog.  And to treat dogs with kindness and respect.
